Mining Report of White House Office May Be Released in August

The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy plans to publish a report on cryptocurrency mining and its environmental impact in August.

According to Bloomberg’s report, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) will release a report on cryptocurrency mining, following the executive order of US President Joe Biden.

OSTP is investigating many more issues related to crypto mining, including complaints about electricity shortages, noise pollution, and other issues in states like Texas.

Costa Samaras, from OSTP’s energy division, told Bloomberg Law.

“If this is to be meaningfully part of our financial system, it is important that it develops responsibly and minimizes overall emissions.

We have seen miners set up where electricity prices are low and secure favorable industrial rates.”

Biden’s executive order tasked OSTP to team up with other offices and produce a report that basically looks at how blockchain technologies can impact the environment. Plans are for the report to be published next August.
